Knox School Board Approves School Resource Officer Position As Negotiations Continue

No deal has been reached yet, but the Knox School Board has voted to move ahead with hiring a school resource officer. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told board members Tuesday that he needed their approval, so a memorandum of understanding could be signed, once it’s ready.

“Again, we’re in discussions with the City of Knox,” he reminded board members. “I think this is going to be a go. So I wanted to bring it in front of the board, just so that if we were able to sign an MOU, that you were in agreement with that.”

Reichhart said they’re still trying to work out the salary, benefits, and other logistics of the contract. One thing that will be included, according to Reichhart, is that if a resource officer isn’t working out, the school would be able to ask for a new one or terminate the agreement. He said the officer would have a number of duties, including helping with traffic control before and after school.
