Enforcement Action Continues on Downtown Knox Property

A Knox downtown property is still under enforcement action under the unsafe building authority.

It’s been a year since the owner of 1 and 3 N. Main Street in Knox was notified of several structural issues that need to be addressed.  While a good number of repairs have been made, Pete Milev still has yet to complete work on the interior and exterior part of the building.

Knox Building Administrator Kenny Pfost told the Knox Board of Works members last week that Milev was waiting on a glass company to replace the storefront glass in November to finish the siding and it hasn’t been done.  Pfost said he’s attempted to contact him to get an update, but there has been no communication.

Knox Mayor Dennis Estok said the weather has been decent this winter for work to be done outside, but Milev has failed to make any progress.

The small claims action is still pending in Starke Circuit Court for old fines in this issue.  The Knox Board of Works members unanimously approved a motion for the city attorney to reactivate the small claims process to push it forward.  The members also anticipate Milev’s presence at their next meeting on Jan. 23.
