New Pulaski County Morgue Nearing Completion

The new space for the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office is almost complete. Maintenance Director Jeff Johnston told the county commissioners Monday that he was looking to move the morgue into the West Annex by the end of this week.

“So by the end of this week, that should be in place,” he said. “Everything should be hooked up, and the coroner should actually be in that building for good. It’s my hope that the Maintenance Department can be completely out of that building altogether by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.”

Pulaski County bought the building, formerly the Winamac Masonic Lodge, last June. The idea was to provide a dedicated morgue and office space for the Coroner’s Office. It will also house the county’s Emergency Management Agency.

The Coroner’s Office has been using space at Frain Mortuary for at least some of its operations, while the new facility was being prepared.
