An interim Town Superintendent was named at Monday night’s North Judson Town Council meeting.

The council members voted unanimously to appoint Randy Schwartz to the position.

Schwartz has been an employee of the NJ Utility Department since 2003 and possesses all the necessary certifications to perform the duties associated with the job.

Over the last few weeks, he has been training with former Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann about how to handle various aspects of the job. From learning how to fill out reports for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to working with project officials on the ongoing Water and Wastewater projects, Schwartz has been getting his feet wet right away.

Before he gave his first department report, Schwartz took a moment to express his gratitude.

He told members, “I just want to thank the council for giving me the opportunity to serve as Interim and I know I have some big shoes to fill with Marshall [Horstmann] being gone. It was a pleasure working underneath him.

While Schwartz serves in the interim position, town officials will be working to advertise the open position.

Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe noted that this position is one of the highest paying in the town. In order to make sure all their bases covered, Rowe said officials will explore all available options by interviewing as many viable candidates as they can.

Rowe said he will coordinate with the Association of Indiana Municipalities (AIM) about the best places to advertise the Town Superintendent’s position.
