American Red Cross Sound the Alarm Event set for Jan. 19

The Red Cross in Pulaski County invites residents to join the “Sound the Alarm” home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

Winamac Volunteer Fire Department firefighters, Pulaski Memorial Hospital officials, local church officials, and other residents are going door-to-door replacing batteries in current smoke alarm systems, and installing new alarms in homes that lack them.

According to Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver, firefighters have responded to a house fire already this year where they could not find working smoke alarms.  He asks that residents volunteer to install smoke alarms in the community, make a financial contribution to assist with the program, or take steps to protect your home from home fires.

The American Red Cross launched the nationwide Home Fire campaign and has gathered an army of volunteers, donors, and partners to visit high-risk neighborhoods to assist families in safety efforts.

If you need help installing smoke alarms, call Winamac Red Cross Representative Sherry Fagner at 574-242-1738 or email sherry.fagner@redcross.org.
