School Calendar Proposals Presented to Oregon-Davis School Board

Changes may be coming to Oregon-Davis students’ fall and Christmas breaks in the coming years. Calendar proposals for the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years were presented to the school board last week.

Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says next year’s Christmas break would be two full weeks, plus an extra Monday. “So our students and staff will have three weekends, if you will, for Christmas break,” he explains.

Meanwhile, fall break would continue to be two days in October, but instead of a Friday and Monday, it would be a Thursday and Friday in 2019. The first day of class next school year would be August 8, 2019, with the last day on May 22, 2020.

The proposed 2020-2021 calendar is similar, with the first day of class on August 6 and the last day on May 20. However, Harman says spring break would be a bit later to incorporate Good Friday, and students would also have the following Monday off.

Plans call for graduation to be held on Saturdays, starting this spring. The Oregon-Davis School Board is scheduled to vote on the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school calendars during its next meeting on February 18.
