La Porte County Sherriff’s Department Recovers about $2,600 Worth of Stolen Property

Three young men were arrested early Monday morning in connection to a theft incident in La Porte County.

According the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, 19-year-old Quinn M. Daley, 24-year-old Dominic M. Jones and 19-year-old Austen T. Wood were arrested after police apparently discovered they were involved with stealing items from vehicles.

In connection to this case, a total of 65 stolen articles, $82 and $5.82 in loose change was recovered. The recovered stolen property is estimated to be worth approximately $2,600.

In a media release, police announced that around 2:45 a.m. on February 11th, midnight shift deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Spruce Street in Westville in reference to suspicious activity. Deputies were advised that a dark colored SUV had possibly dropped off two subjects who may be entering vehicles in the area.

At 3:04 a.m. a traffic stop was initiated at Ash Parkway and CR 300 South on an SUV matching the description. The driver, Quinn Daley, reportedly admitted he did drop off two subjects in the area who were stealing from motor vehicles

Authorities report that a second subject, Austen Wood, was discovered shortly before 3:20 a.m. in the 300 block of Ash Parkway.

For an extended period of time deputies continued searching for the subject by following footprints in the freshly fallen snow. Their search was concluded at 4:06 a.m. when the third subject, Dominic Jones, was found in the area of US 421 and SR 2.

All three men were arrested and transported to the La Porte County Jail where they were charged with the Level 6 Felony of theft. Wood and Jones were also charged with the B-Misdemeanor of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle.

Additionally, police discovered that Jones was a wanted person, with a failure to appear arrest warrant linked to him through the St. Joseph County Police Department.

All three subjects remain lodged in the La Porte County Jail.

Officials noted that citizens are urged to remove any valuable possessions from automobiles and to secure their vehicles at all times.
