The North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire near Denham Wednesday morning.

According to Department officials, a vehicle fire on 575 West, near Denham, was reported on Wednesday, February 6th and firefighters were toned out around 4:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they found that the vehicle was unoccupied but fully engulfed in flames.

The hose team started to apply water on the driver side while Fire Chief Joe Leszek demonstrated how to pop a hood to a probationary member. Officials shared on social media that Chief Leszek made the decision to pop the hood since wind was blowing the smoke away from the front.

Officials reported that the fire was completely extinguished within about 10 minutes. A fire investigation was conducted but since there wasn’t much of the vehicle remaining, the cause was undetermined.

At one point, the Winamac FD was in route to the scene because dispatch was unsure whether the North Judson-Wayne Township Department had responded. However, dispatch was contacted by cell phone to alert them that Winamac’s assistance was not required.
