Culver School Board Updated on ISTEP Scores, Preschool Program

The Culver School Board got an update last week on the schools’ ISTEP scores and the steps being taken in response, according to Superintendent Karen Shuman.

“So the biggest thing is that we are making sure that our students are being identified earlier through local assessments,” she explains, “and then provide interventions based on the data from those local assessments, to ensure that they increase in growth.” Shuman says school officials hope those efforts will also prepare students from the transition from the ISTEP to the new ILEARN test.

In other business last week, Shuman says Culver Elementary School’s preschool teachers reported on the success of the program, which started last fall. She adds that enrollment is currently open for next year’s preschool program.
