Knox Wastewater Department Attends Annual Underground Digging Safety Training

Knox Wastewater employees recently attended some training related to underground digging safety.

When the Board of Works members met Wednesday morning, Wastewater Superintendent Kelly Clemons provided some details about the course that’s hosted by Indiana 811.

She explained to board members why the training is important to attend.

“It’s basically put on by the gas companies.” Clemons continued, “If we hit a gas line and cause damage, we’re responsible for any gas that leaks out, plus repairs and you could be sent to additional training and then the fines that are assessed can be quite a bit.”

She noted that it is offered annually to contractors, municipalities and anyone else who does underground digging. Clemons mentioned that for the last 10 years or so she and her crew members have attended the training at Swan Lake in Plymouth.
