Search Underway for Next Winamac High School Principal

Winamac Community High School

Eastern Pulaski school officials hope to select a new high school principal within the next couple months. Rick DeFries is stepping down at the end of the school year to take over as principal at Covenant Christian High School in DeMotte.

Superintendent Dan Foster says about 12 applications had been received by last Friday’s deadline, and school officials are busy going through them. “We have a committee that will make a first-round interview right after spring break,” Foster says, “with the goal being to take two, maybe three, but at least two candidates to the board for final interviews. And then no later than the May meeting would be anticipation of naming that person as the next principal.”

Foster says he wishes DeFries well with his new job. “I’m sure it’s going to be great for him to kind of be back home, but it’s kind of exciting,” Foster says. “We haven’t hired a principal at the high school for 16 years, so it’s an opportunity for us. We’ve got to get it right, though. You only get this chance once every so often, and so we want to make sure we get it right.”

Foster gave an update on the process to the school board, during a work session Monday.
