Knox Street Dept to Conduct Second Leaf Collection Starting Monday

Knox Street Superintendent Jeff Borg reminded Board of Works members that his department will be doing another spring leaf pick-up next week. He also shared how the first pick-up went.

He explained, “First week in April was the spring clean leaf collection. The guys vacuumed up 90 yards of leaves which is a fairly large amount.”

Borg said the crews will be making their way around the city once again from Monday, April 29th through Friday, May 3rd. There are a few things to keep in mind as the second spring-leaf pick up approaches.

City officials shared that contractors will not pick up bagged leaves. All leaves should be put in front of residences, next to the curb, on the street, in a long row, not in alleyways. Be sure to keep all trash out of your leaf piles so the vacuum can pick them up.

As a reminder, those living within the city limits have access to the city compost pile.

According to information from the Mayor’s Office, if you wish to drop off leaves, grass, garden material or brush you should remove the material from bags or containers before putting them in the designated area behind City Hall, on the corner of Shield and Mound Streets.

Citizens are also reminded that the Street Department will continue to pick up branches and limbs each Thursday. However, street department employees will not take away brush remaining from professional tree removal jobs. According to the City’s policy on the matter, that material is the responsibility of the removal company.
