Former Pulaski County Sheriff Acquitted on Charges

Michael Gayer

A Pulaski County jury found a former Pulaski County Sheriff not guilty on seven criminal charges Wednesday.

Michael Gayer was indicted by a Grand Jury on charges of theft, official misconduct, obstruction of justice, and public corruption charges in 2016 after he was accused of stealing weapons and ammunition from the sheriff’s department.

According to Gayer’s Attorney, Bryan Cook, testimony was heard over three days this week and it took the jury about 2.5 hours to determine not guilty verdicts.

The State was represented by Special Prosecutor, Marshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman.

Gayer served as an Indiana State Police Trooper for 27 years and 8 years as the sheriff of Pulaski County before he retired in 2014.
