La Porte County Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Firearms Violation Arrest

A man was lodged in the La Porte County Jail after a loaded firearm was apparently located in his vehicle during a traffic stop Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, La Porte County Deputy John Roby Jr. was monitoring westbound traffic in the 3000 East block of US 20 on Monday, May 13th.

While doing so, he observed a passenger vehicle committing a traffic infraction. A short time later, the deputy initiated a traffic stop along US 20 near Wilhelm Road.

The driver was identified as 25-year-old Donald R. Brewster Jr. As the traffic stop progressed, Deputy Roby reportedly determined that Brewster had never been issued a driver’s license.

Police say a wrecker service was summoned to the scene to impound the vehicle. During an inventory and search, a loaded firearm was allegedly located within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

The police report states that Brewster was arrested for the C-Misdemeanor of never receiving a license and the Level-4 Felony of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

He was transported to the La Porte County Jail and was given a $20,005 cash only bond through Superior Court 1.

Readers are reminded that arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations.  Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
