Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for multiple counties in Northern Indiana including, Starke and Pulaski.

The watch will remain in effect until 6 p.m. CT Thursday night.

A severe thunderstorm is officially defined as storms that are capable of producing hail that is an inch or larger or wind gusts over 58 mph.

Hail this size can damage property such as plants, roofs and vehicles while strong winds are capable of breaking off large branches, knocking over trees or causing structural damage to trees.

The rain that accompanies thunderstorms can also lead to issues with flash flooding in low lying areas and ponding on roadways.

Individuals are advised to seek shelter and if you must be in a vehicle during this time, travel with caution.
