For the second year in a row, lunch prices are going up at Knox Community Schools. A ten-cent increase was approved by the school board Tuesday.
Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart explained that the school corporation has to keep its meal prices within National School Lunch Program requirements. “We really don’t have a choice,” he said. “I mean, if that calculator from last year to this year says you have to raise your lunch program by 10 cents or 15 cents, you’ve got to do it. It’s a federal guideline.”
Starting in August, lunch will cost $2.25 at the elementary school and $2.50 at the middle and high schools. The price of breakfast is also going up by 10 cents to $1.45 at all three schools.
