Starke County Commissioners to Meet Tonight

The Starke County Commissioners will continue a discussion on a solar energy ordinance when they meet tonight.

Building Inspector Terry Stephenson brought the ordinance to the attention of the commissioners during their last meeting in May.  The ordinance provides commercial energy systems guidelines for the installation of solar farms in Starke County.  He commented that the tech committee took a similar document approved in Jasper County and molded it to fit the county’s needs.

Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem stated she needed more time to dissect the ordinance and visit potential sites for more information before she acts on the ordinance. Action could come during tonight’s meeting.

Starke County EMS Director Travis Clary and Clerk Mary Lynn Ritchie will have updates on the county’s EMS services tonight while Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler will have an update on his department’s projects this spring.

Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Larry Wickert will update the commissioners on the Constellation of Starke application for the Regional Stellar Communities Designation effort and other updates from around the county.  A solid waste agreement is also up for approval.

The Starke County Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. CT tonight in the first floor meeting room in the Starke County Annex Building No. 1 at 53 E. Mound Street in Knox.
