The Winamac Park Board will soon be seeking construction bids for the Town Park restroom project. During Thursday’s meeting, Park Board President Chris Schramm said town officials were putting the finishing touches on the grant paperwork.
“I received the stuff last week,” Schramm reported. “[Town Manager and Board Member] Brad [Zellers] and I went over it, and there’s no problem. We’re having trouble with the signature part of it. [Clerk- Treasurer] Melanie [Berger] is going to try it in the morning. She’s better at that electronic signature they require. So we’ll get that done, hopefully, first thing in the morning, then it will be sent off.”
The park board applied for funding to replace the Town Park’s main restrooms, as well as for some other smaller projects, during last year’s round of Land and Water Conservation Fund grants. But official approval was significantly delayed, due, in part, to the federal government shutdown.
Now, Zellers says he’s ready to advertise for construction bids. “I’ll get it advertised the two legal times in the paper, contact a few people to make sure they see it, and anybody that’s interested, get the plans out, and hopefully, it goes good,” he told the rest of the park board. “Hopefully, this fall, we can get ‘er goin’, goin’, goin’.”
Plans call for the old brick restrooms in the front of the park to be demolished and replaced with a new structure, with more ADA-compliant stalls and more room in general. The grant will also help pay for new equipment for the toddler playground, frisbee golf equipment, and new backboards for some of the park’s basketball hoops.
