Plea Agreements Presented in Two Cases in Starke Circuit Court

Two Starke County residents will be serving time on probation after pleading guilty to charges in two separate incidents.

Amy Hajek, 37, of Knox, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the State on a Level 4 Felony charge of burglary.

Hajek admitted to Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall that she entered a residence without permission and took items not belonging to her on March 8 of this year.

Starke County Prosecutor Leslie Baker pointed out that because Hajek has a low risk of re-offending and her lack of criminal history, the State and Defense Attorney Richard Ballard negotiated a plea agreement.

Hajek would serve 6 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with 4 years suspended to be served on probation.  The executed part of her sentence would be served on home detention.

Judge Hall accepted the plea agreement and Hajek was sentenced on those terms.

Don Parrish, Jr., 70, of Knox pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the State to a Level 6 Felony charge of domestic battery.

Parrish admitted to Judge Hall that he slapped his daughter-in-law in the face who got in the middle of an argument with his wife.  The action was heard by a 13-year-old child in the house.

Judge Hall accepted his plea agreement which called for a sentence of 18 months to be served on home detention and 12 months on probation.  Prosecutor Leslie Baker noted that with good credit, the home detention portion of his sentence is satisfied so he will serve the remainder of the sentence on probation.
