Starke County Commissioners Discusses Inmate Offender Provider Agreement

Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin presented an Incarcerated Offender Provider Agreement to the county commissioners Monday night.

Dulin explained that Quality Correctional Care charges $15 an inmate to enroll them in  Medicaid. An inmate is eligible after being incarcerated 30 days and 30 days after an inmate’s release.

Commissioner Kathy Norem noted that the county has catastrophic insurance in case an inmate has a major health issue where they will be covered.

Commission President Charlie Chesak noted that the process seems like a lot of work for the sheriff’s department to undertake, but Sheriff Dulin said it will be worth it in the end.

The commissioners unanimously approved the agreement as presented.
