‘Strong Odor’ Coming from Van Leads to Marijuana Arrest during Tour de LaPorte

A strong odor from a white van during the Tour de LaPorte reportedly led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man over the weekend. LaPorte County Police were providing traffic control for the event at various locations Saturday morning.

That’s when two officers positioned at the intersection of Small Road and County Road 500 West say they “each detected an odor commonly associated with that of illegal drug use” coming from a van heading north on 500. As the van passed 150 North, a detective there also reportedly smelled it. When a deputy began following the van, the smell was allegedly so strong that he smelled it even though his police car’s windows were closed.

After the deputy reportedly observed two traffic violations, he pulled over the van in the 6000 block of West Johnson Road. The driver, Michael M. Morse, faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
