Subjects Apprehended After Allegedly Fleeing from Scene of Accident Involving Snapped Utility Pole

Charges are being forwarded to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office after two occupants allegedly fled the scene of a single-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon.

According to Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin, a call about a snapped utility pole in the area of 200 S and 250 E came in shortly after 2:40 p.m. When authorities arrived, the occupants had apparently left the area.

The perimeter was secured and officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Knox City Police Department, North Judson Police Department, and Indiana State Police were involved with the response.

Sheriff Dulin stated that two individuals were located by a Knox City Police K9 and were subsequently apprehended.

As stated above, official charges are pending with the Prosecutor’s Office. Additional information will be shared as soon as it becomes available.

The damage to the pole resulted in a power outage for Kankakee Valley REMC customers in the surrounding area. At the time dispatch was contacted, crews were in route to fix the issue.
