Winamac Town Council Officially Accepts Donation of McKinley Memorial Gardens

The Winamac Town Council passed an ordinance accepting a donation of land when members met earlier this month.

The property mentioned in the ordinance was donated by the McKinley Cemetery Association.

This matter was addressed at a council meeting back in July, when Charles McKinley came before members, stating that the organization’s board of directors decided it was in the best interest of the property to hand ownership over to the town.

Members unanimously supported the idea of taking responsibility for the McKinley Memorial Gardens at that time and the ordinance passed last Monday makes it all official.

In addition to mentioning the details surrounding the cemetery acquisition, the ordinance also states that the Town’s Clerk-Treasurer is authorized to accept any donation of funds from McKinley Cemetery Association.

It goes on to say that the donations would be deposited in the Special Cemetery Fund and would be used for the purposes of care, preservation, modification and maintenance of the Winamac Cemetery, including the portion acquired through the ordinance.
