The Winamac Park Board has picked a construction company to build new restrooms in the Town Park. During Thursday’s meeting, board members selected the FORM-IT Corporation’s bid of $165,000.
That was less than half the cost of the other bid the board received from Gariup Construction Company, but Town Attorney Justin Schramm and Park Board Member Brad Zellers found that FORM-IT’s bid met all the specifications. Zellers pointed out that work won’t be able to start until the town’s permits are renewed. The plans also need to be revised, to bring toilet and sink heights in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Part of the cost will be covered by a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant. Winamac’s grant application also included a number of smaller items, such as new equipment for the toddler playground, a permanent cornhole court, and frisbee golf equipment.
Zellers explained that work will also have to wait for the town’s permits, since the Department of Natural Resources won’t fully release the funding until they’re in place. Some of the installation work will be done by town employees, but Zellers said certain aspects will require outside help.
