Enrollment Drop May Offset Eastern Pulaski’s Teacher Retirement Cost Reduction

Any savings the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation might have seen in the cost of teacher pensions will likely be offset by a drop in enrollment.

The state has reduced the amount of money that each school corporation has to pay into the Teachers’ Retirement Fund, but Interim Superintendent Dr. Gib Crimmins doubts that will actually result in extra money for Eastern Pulaski. “The TRF cost reduction lowered the bill, but now the enrollment is going to lower the revenue,” Crimmins explains. “So the net effect of it is probably a negative number, which is not good news, but that’s reality.”

Crimmins says school officials will have a better idea of the enrollment figure after this Friday’s official count. That determines how much Education Fund money each school corporation gets from the state.
