Culver Town Council Approves Community Crossings Projects

The Culver Town Council members approved the streets to be included in the latest round of Community Crossings matching grant projects.

Town Manager Jonathan Leist noted that INDOT presented a check in the amount of $749,000.62 to the town last Tuesday.  The town’s match is about $250,000.  Those projects include Cass Street from Slate Street to Lake Street, Clymax from Jefferson to Marmont, Plymouth from Mill to Obispo, West Shore Street from South Main to Lincoln which will be part of the drainage project, Washington Street from Ohio Street to east terminus, State Street from College Street to Lake Shore Drive, and Obispo from Batabano to Wabash Streets.

As for State Street, which is currently a brick road, the council thought it more economical to pave that street for $66,000 rather than rebrick it at a cost of $549,000.

The storm project on Davis Street and South Main Street is included, but the engineering cost was not grant-eligible so the town will need to pay the entire $105,000 cost with Midwestern Engineering.  The Culver Redevelopment Commission approved that funding as they believe that it will benefit the TIF District.

The work will be done in 2020.
