Enrollment Decline Continues at Oregon-Davis

Declining enrollment continues to be a concern at the Oregon-Davis School Corporation.

Superintendent Dr. Don Harman said that as of Monday, the school corporation had 522 students, with 15 of those being preschoolers. He explained that last month’s official count day showed 13 fewer students than there were last year. Harman said that will result in a loss of about $91,000 in state funding.

During Monday’s public hearing on the proposed teacher contract, School Board Member Kyle Hinds stressed that boosting enrollment continues to be a priority. “The board has given some initiatives to the administration that are specifically goal-oriented towards enrollment because that is the only solution to this problem,” he said.

The school corporation has lost about 200 students over the past 10 years. Oregon-Davis has recently had a property tax referendum and an administrative restructuring, to try to keep the budget balanced.
