Firefighters Battle Blaze in Culver for Several Hours

As of 10:30 p.m. ET Wednesday evening, Culver-Union Township Firefighters were still on the scene of a structure fire that broke out at 415 Lake Shore Drive around 5 p.m. Crews were finally able to leave around 11 p.m.    

Multiple agencies, including the Culver-Union Township, Plymouth, Monterey, and Leiters Ford Fire Departments, as well as Culver EMS and Culver PD responded to the scene.

Shortly after 8 o’clock Culver Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim issued an announcement that Lake Shore Drive between State Street and Lake Street was closed.

According to Marshall County Central Dispatch, around 9 p.m. most units were able to leave but Culver crews remained on the scene.

All flames had reportedly been extinguished but hot spots were still being treated.

Dispatch noted that it is believed that the fire was mostly contained to one structure, the former City Tavern building. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been officially released. Additional details will be provided when they become available.
