Knox School Board Approves Purchase of Electronic Sign

Knox School Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart presents rendering of proposed electronic message board to school board members in October of 2018

The Knox School Board has approved the purchase of an electronic sign, after more than a year of discussion. On Monday, board members approved a bid for just under $45,000 from Vanadco Signs.

Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said the two-sided message board will be placed near the southwest corner of Redskin Trail and Main Street by the tennis courts. “We haven’t had a corporation sign, and this will help us show off our campus and the many good things that are going on, on our campus and at each of our three schools,” he said.

The cost of the sign will be covered by money from NIPSCO energy efficiency rebates, stemming from last year’s facility improvements. “So it does not come out of any General Fund monies,” Reichhart explained. “It doesn’t come out of teacher salaries. It is money that we saved by putting in more efficient lighting on our campus with all the outdoor LED lighting.”

Reichhart first proposed the sign when the rebate check was presented in October of 2018, but board members decided to wait until the facility improvement plans were finalized, so a location could be determined.
