Monterey Man Suffers Medical Emergency While Driving Vehicle through Knox

A single-vehicle accident reported at a fast food establishment in Knox was reportedly caused after the driver suffered a medical issue, according to the Knox City Police Department.

The crash report indicated that 34-year-old Kenneth Rannie of Monterey was traveling south on U.S. 35 in Knox on Thursday morning when he started to shake.  Police say the passenger noticed the issue and grabbed the steering wheel after Rannie became unconscious.  As a result, the vehicle turned west and went up on the curb and into the drive-thru lane at the Taco Bell restaurant.  The vehicle struck a concrete wall where it came to a stop.

The responding officer saw the driver out of the car and laying on the ground upon arrival.  Police say Rannie was transported to the hospital for treatment.

No other passengers in the vehicle were injured.  Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The Knox City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Knox-Center Township Fire Department and Starke County EMS.
