NJ Officials to Hear Back About Grant Funding for Sidewalk Project Next Year

An update over the proposed State Road 10 sidewalk project in the Town of North Judson was provided when Town Council members met last Monday.

As a reminder, this project will involve installing sidewalk along the south side of SR 10 from Wilson Street up to the Dollar General Store.

Since many pedestrians currently travel along the highway in the grass or utilize the roadway to access stores along SR 10 this project is being considered due to safety concerns that have been expressed.

The Town is working with Fleis and VandenBrink to apply for an 80/20 INDOT grant. Project Manager Mitch Hansel alerted Town Council members about where they are in the process.

He explained, “We submitted the sidewalk project for funding and we should hopefully hear something about that in January or February.”

If awarded, the grant will help cover the cost of this project which is estimated to be around $300,600. That means the town’s match will be around $60,100. As was reported previously, the total project cost includes more than just the price for materials and installation.

While this project is proposed for 2024, Hansel stated that they’ve been able to move projects up in the past, so it isn’t unlikely that it could be done sooner than that.
