Oregon-Davis School Board Approves 2019-2020 School Improvement Plans

Oregon-Davis School Board

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is laying out strategies to boost test scores and attendance. The school board approved the 2019-2020 school improvement plans last week, according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman.

He says there were some common themes in both schools’ plans. “Obviously, we are trying to address our mathematics and language arts scores with ILEARN,” Harman explains. “We also are looking at growth in both mathematics and language arts, and we’ve identified our attendance and how we want to improve our attendance of our students.”

Harman adds that school officials have come up with some strategies to address those issues. “We have maker spaces, a maker space lab in both buildings,” he says. “We’re utilizing those maker spaces and we’re utilizing professional development with our teaching staff in both buildings to become STEM-certified, and we’re trying to implement STEM into the classroom to help our math and English scores.”

School officials will also continue looking at data for ways to improve, and the curriculum maps will continue to be refined. Harman says Elementary School Principal Bill Bennett and Junior/Senior High School Assistant Principal Andrew Carlin presented the plans to the school board during last week’s meeting.
