Hamlet Street Superintendent Continues Preparing for Possible Division Street Project

The Town of Hamlet continues preparing for its next paving project. Town officials hope to resurface Division Street from Railroad to Terry streets, with funding from the next round of Community Crossings grants.

Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told the town council last week that Street Superintendent Kevin Leinbach was working on getting a cost estimate, so the town council can finalize the grant application at its next meeting. It’s due by February 7.

Council Member Brian Earnest reminded Leinbach to include the installation of a sidewalk in the estimate, to tie in with a walking path being planned for the Town Park. “Obviously, I think we should run sidewalk all the way down Division one side to connect to that, too,” Earnest said.

Council members also asked about including drainage upgrades at some of the intersections, but Leinbach said he could do that work himself by adding onto the existing drains.

If approved, a Community Crossings grant would cover 75 percent of the project cost. Hamlet has used Community Crossings funding for improvements to Starke and Railroad streets over the past few years.
