Potential Implementation of No Smoking Ordinance for Knox City Facilities Discussed with Council

The possibility of potentially implementing an ordinance that would prohibit smoking near City facilities was recently discussed with Knox City Council members.

Mayor Dennis Estok brought the matter up during the Council’s first meeting in January.

He noted, “I do want to make City-owned property/buildings no smoking. I just can’t take when we have City court people being out there puffing away and throwing them and people outside my window puffing away and it coming in my room.”

Estok continued, “We do have in the employee handbook that you have to be 8-feet away from the building but that’s too close.”

No official actions were taken and, as of right now, an ordinance has not been drafted. However, the matter may come back before the council in future meetings.
