Winamac Officials Receive Race Notification from Friends of the Panhandle Pathway

The Winamac Town Council received a race notification from the Friends of the Panhandle Pathway when they met Monday night.

On behalf of the group, John Bawcum submitted a letter which stated that ‘Frank Race Management’ is interested in bringing a race to Winamac on Saturday, July 4th.

He noted that the Michigan-based running-race organization provides inexpensive, quality race opportunities for athletes of all abilities with a variety of ‘down and back’ events including 5Ks, 10Ks and ½ marathons.

Their events are primarily organized in communities with access to hiking and biking trail systems and since they’re looking to expand to trails in Northern Indiana, the Town of Winamac and Panhandle Pathway are apparently of great interest to them.

In the letter, Bawcum explained that the race would begin at 8 a.m. ET in downtown Winamac at the train depot. He noted that they would provide insurance coverage for the event.

No official actions had to be taken but the council members seemed generally supportive of the idea.
