Starke County Recorder to Purchase new Plat Cabinet

Starke County Recorder Mandy Thomason will be purchasing a new plat cabinet with envelopes for the original plat book pages to more safely store them.

Thomason told the Starke County Commissioners last week that the current envelopes are destroying the original plats.

“They are leaking.  There’s some kind of oil inside of them and it is eating quite a few of our pages,” stated Thomason.

She said she got two quotes for the replacement of envelopes and a cabinet.  She explained that best quote she found came from Easifile for new envelopes and a cabinet for $4,168.52.  A $1,000 credit would be applied toward that cost if the county recycles the old unit within 180 days.  For the new cabinet system, including the needed 600 envelopes, the total would be $3,221.52 with the recycle option.

The funds would be used from the Recorder’s Perpetuation Fund.

The commissioners unanimously approved her request to recycle the old unit and purchase the new cabinet.
