COVID-19 Leading to Increased Food Bank Usage

The COVID-19 emergency has more Hoosiers using food banks. During state officials’ daily briefing Thursday, Governor Eric Holcomb said that food distribution is up about 154 percent.

He highlighted the efforts of the various food banks throughout the state, including the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. “They’re packing 5,000 boxes each week, 2,000 bags, and getting those out to LaPorte, Marshall, Kosciusko, Elkhart, Starke, and St. Joe counties, so a big, big reach there,” Holcomb said.

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana has been hosting several “bonus” drive-through food distributions. The next one is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) morning from 10:00 a.m. to noon CDT at Knox Elementary School.
