Governor Commends Bus Driver, Grandson Who Alerted Family to Gas Leak while Delivering Meals

The recent actions of a Knox Community School Corporation bus driver and his grandson have gotten some statewide attention. Bus driver Gerald Shadrix and his grandson were delivering meals Monday, when they alerted a family to a gas leak.

Governor Eric Holcomb highlighted their efforts during his daily COVID-19 briefing Wednesday. “So in this case, not only were they providing food, but they probably saved a life,” Holcomb said. “At least, that’s what the mom said when she called in the very next day and was thankful that someone was there and could intervene and help evacuate the family right there on the spot. This is neighbors looking after neighbors, and it’s how we’re getting through this all together.”

The governor commended the bus drivers and other officials at Knox Community Schools for their work to make sure students have lunch and breakfast.
