N.J.-S.P. School Board Accepts Elementary Principal’s Resignation, Recognizes Retirees

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board finalized a few personnel changes Tuesday. Board members accepted Julie Berndt’s resignation from the elementary school principal position, effective June 30. In practice, Cary McKay has been serving in that role for the past few months.

His former position of junior/senior high school dean of students will be filled by Kent Chezem, who’s also taking over as head boys basketball coach. The school board also accepted the resignation of former basketball coach Kyle Evans.

Meanwhile, two retiring teachers were recognized during Tuesday’s meeting. Elementary School Art Teacher Sylvia Dumas told board members that she was very fortunate to have been a part of the school and community for the past 21 years, saying the job has been a dream come true.

Donna Rowe is retiring after 27 years with the school corporation. She said she feels lucky to have become a teacher and come to N.J.-S.P. Rowe thanked Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin for her leadership and noted that two of the school board members are former students of hers.

The school board also approved the retirement of longtime cafeteria worker Rosie Amidei.
