Oregon-Davis schools are a step closer to getting heating and cooling upgrades. The school board Monday officially approved EMCOR as the school corporation’s guaranteed savings provider, according to Education Consultant Jim Dermody.
School officials have noted in the past that the HVAC control systems were outdated and the chillers were on borrowed time. Last month, the school board agreed to pursue upgrades at both school buildings, at an estimated cost of $6 million. Board members have also begun the process of potentially issuing bonds.
Under a guaranteed savings contract, a state-qualified provider guarantees that the work will pay for itself over a certain period of time, through reductions in energy or maintenance costs. If it doesn’t, the provider has to pay the difference.
Dermody notes that EMCOR’s work could also involve other energy-savings improvements at the schools.
