A Wanatah man is dead, after a shooting in rural LaPorte County Monday night. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say they were called to a home in the 8200 block of West County Road 1500 South at about 8:15.
Police say that shortly after they got there, they saw someone leaving the home and immediately took that person into custody. When they went inside, officers reportedly found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim, Jeremiah J. Wetzel, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, and at this point, police aren’t releasing the name of the person in custody. The LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, LaPorte County EMS, and the Cass-Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
