Wanted South Bend Woman Arrested following Police Chase

A South Bend woman wanted by authorities in St. Joseph and Lake counties now faces additional charges following a police chase early Thursday morning. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say it began in Berrien County, Michigan, when police tried to check on a vehicle’s occupants.

Officers say the vehicle fled, and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department picked up the pursuit on County Road 500 East. The vehicle allegedly led police through Rolling Prairie and west on U.S. 20, before deputies were finally able to slow it down using two sets of tire deflation devices near Range Road.

The driver was taken to LaPorte Hospital for medical treatment, where police say she was positively identified as Asia L. Jeter, 35. She was then booked into the LaPorte County Jail on the Level 6 felony charges of resisting law enforcement and identity deception, along with misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and driving while suspended with a prior conviction. That’s in addition to the wanted person holds from St. Joseph and Lake counties.
