Culver Town Council Amends Police Department Ordinance

The Culver Town Council reviewed an amendment to the ordinance that addresses the organization of the Culver Police Department.

It previously presented a number of officers on the department, but town officials wanted the wording to be changed based on the current hiring plans.  The council recently allowed Culver Town Marshal Wayne Bean to expand his force to five officers and the change needed to be reflected in the ordinance.  Bean is currently in the process of hiring new officers for the force after two officers resigned earlier this year.

The amendment allows the number of full-time deputy marshals to be set by approval of the town council with the guidance of the salary ordinance and the budget approval process.

The ordinance stated that all other requirements, powers, and duties of the town marshal and deputy marshals will remain unchanged.

The ordinance amendment was approved with a unanimous vote by the town council.
