Get Brick Pavers Ordered to be Placed at Starke County Veterans War Memorial Plaza

Work is continuing on the Starke County Veterans War Memorial Plaza in Knox and now is the chance to purchase a brick paver for the project.

Committee member Kathy Norem spoke to WKVI Morning Show Host Charlie Adams Thursday morning during the Thankful Thursday segment to provide information about the project.  She said the deadline to submit forms for brick pavers is July 1.  The single brick paver is $150 and the double brick paver is $350.  Donors can have a veteran’s name engraved on the paver or simply have their name included.  Logos can be printed on the larger pavers.

Forms can be found at the Auditor’s Office in the Starke County Annex No. 1 Building in Knox, the security station at the Starke County Courthouse, or by contacting Norem at 574-806-3910.  Information can also be found on the county’s fundraising website on www.patronicity.com where more funds are being sought for a $50,000 matching grant.  The purchase of pavers can count toward the fundraising goal, or other contributions can be made on the website.  The county has until July 21 to raise the money in order to get the matching funds from the Indiana Community and Housing Development Authority.

The Starke County Veterans War Memorial Plaza is in the process of being constructed on the southeast corner of the Starke County Courthouse Square.  It will feature the names of fallen Starke County soldiers in wars dating back to the Civil War.  It will be accessible for all to view with seating available.  The next step will be the application of concrete by volunteers Nathan Chambers and Doug Allen.  It is the hope of the committee to complete the project by Veteran’s Day when the dedication ceremony would take place.
