North Judson-San Pierre to Hold Off on New Bus Garage after Bids Come in Over Budget

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board has decided to hold off on a proposed bus garage project, after bids came in higher than expected.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin reminded the board members last week that school officials had hoped to build the new garage with leftover general obligation bond revenues. “We budgeted $400,000 for that and truly believed that that is a very realistic number, and the lowest bid was almost double that,” Zupin explained.

Zupin said architects did come back with some cost-saving suggestions, but she felt school officials needed more time to do their due diligence. She thought it would be better to focus on the elementary school project first and address the bus garage at a later time, probably within the next two years. In the meantime, she said the current garage is structurally sound.

The school board voted to reject all of the bids, at Zupin’s recommendation.
