Starke County Commissioners to Meet Today

The Starke County Commissioners will get an update on the U.S. 30 project from U.S. 30 Coalition members Dennis Falkenberg and Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer when they meet this morning.

In May, Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler told the commissioners that it appears that INDOT is not showing any movement toward a U.S. 30 freeway project and has no current plans to develop it.  The guests are expected to discuss why they believe Starke County should be more involved in the project, if it progresses, but the commissioners have stated they’re not willing to contribute any more money toward the committee at this time.

The commissioners are also anticipated to award a bid for the renovation projects on the third floor of the Starke County Courthouse tonight.  They will review quotes for security cameras.

In addition, Mark Rippy will update the commissioners on services provided by Community Services of Starke County, while Auditor Rachel Oesterreich will present a request to update LOW financial software.

Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler and EMS Director Travis Clary will present monthly reports.

Another discussion topic is findings of fact pertaining to Tom DeCola’s claim on behalf of Argento, LLC.  The commissioners recently denied a request from DeCola to vacate several rights-of-way on property he owns in San Pierre.

The Starke County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. CT on the ZOOM meeting platform which streams live on YouTube.  Residents may also attend in person where social distancing will be observed.
