A longtime Winamac Middle School teacher will soon be stepping down. Science teacher Steven Slaven will retire at the end of the semester.
Eastern Pulaski School Superintendent Dara Chezem says he will be missed. “He’s been involved in students’ lives by organizing the eighth grade field trip to Washington, D.C. for many years, as well as coaching our Science Olympiad,” Chezem says. “And his teams routinely qualify for the state championship, and I think it would be hard to find anyone that could match his team’s records anywhere in our area.”
Chezem says Slaven’s retirement request was officially approved by the school board last month.
