North Judson-San Pierre School Board Discusses Narcan Policy

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board members resumed discussions on a Narcan policy when they met last month.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin stated that the concerns that the board had dealt with the potential of the administration of Narcan during extra-curricular events.  Dr. Zupin clarified that if a medical issue occurs during an extra-curricular event, the ambulance is called and medical personnel responding would have the capability to administer Narcan, if needed.  So no staff members would need to be responsible for that if such a medical event happens.

During the school day, administrators, school nurses and the School Resource Officer (SRO) would be responsible for the administration of Narcan.  The SRO is currently trained and the administration and nurses would be trained to use it.  The medication will be properly stored with restricted access to those who are authorized to administer it.

With that, the school board members unanimously approved the Narcan policy as presented.
