The Starke County Commissioners appointed a new Starke County Park Board member during their meeting Monday. Park Board member Tom Bush had resigned his seat.
It was noted the seat needed to be filled by a Republican in order for the board to be politically balanced. Commissioner Don Binkley nominated Bernadette Welter-Manuel to fill the position. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich told WKVI News, Welter-Manuel is expected to be seated on the board pending further review by County Attorney Justin Schramm due to her current county employment. More information is expected at a future meeting.
