The Starke County Commissioners heard from Highway Superintendent Dan Dipert during their meeting last week.
Superintendent Dipert informed the commissioners the highway department will be grading roads throughout the county. He stated they started two weeks ago and plan on finishing up this week in preparation for the harvest season.
Farm machinery is expected to be more prevalent this time of year as farmers will be harvesting their crops. Dipert stated the grading process will further stretch the lifespan of Starke County’s roads.
Road grading is the process of shaping and leveling the surface of a dirt or gravel road with a heavy machine called a grader. It can be used to prepare land for paving, restore original driving conditions, or provide drainage for roadways. It involves removing or filling in potholes, washboards, and other irregularities. Road grading may be needed after rainfall or heavy traffic. Motorists should be careful when driving near a grading operation.
